Sinus Lift

When there isn’t enough bone to place an implant

Oral surgery Dental Care Acworth dental treatment scene

Occasionally, the challenge with dental implants isn’t the tooth, it’s the bone underneath. In the upper back jaw, there may not be enough bone height to securely place an implant. This can happen due to bone loss, missing teeth over time, or simply natural anatomy. A sinus lift is a way to gently create more space and build that support so implants can be placedΒ properly.

What a sinus lift actually does

The name can sound a bit technical, but the idea is fairly straightforward. The sinus membrane is carefully lifted, and bone material is added to the area below it. Over time, this added material integrates with your natural bone, creating a stronger, more stable base. It’s not something you notice day to day, it just helps make future treatmentΒ possible.

Why it’s often recommended before implants

Dental implants need a solid foundation to last. Without enough bone, placing an implant may not be stable or predictable. A sinus lift helps avoid those issues by building up the area first. In many cases, it’s what allows patients who were previously told β€œit’s not possible” to move forward withΒ implants.

What to expect during the process

We take time to plan everything carefully before the procedure. Imaging helps us understand the exact structure of your jaw and sinus area. On the day of treatment, the focus is on keeping things steady, controlled, and comfortable. Most patients are surprised that it feels more manageable than theyΒ expected.

Comfort during treatment

It’s normal to feel unsure about any procedure involving surgery. That’s why we offer options to help you relax. Some patients prefer light sedation, while others want something deeper. We’ll talk through it together so you’re not going into it feeling tense orΒ rushed.

Healing and what comes next

Healing takes time because the bone needs to integrate properly. This usually happens over several months. It might feel like a slow process, but it’s what helps ensure long-term success with implants. We’ll check your progress along the way and let you know when you’re ready for the nextΒ step.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions About Sinus Lifts

When there isn't enough bone in the upper jaw to support a dental implant, a sinus lift is performed. It contributes to the establishment of a solid basis for long-term implant success.

Because of sedation or anesthetic, you won't experience any pain during the process. After that, there might be some minor pressure or discomfort, but with medicine and the right care, it's typicallyΒ manageable.

Because the new bone needs time to connect with your natural bone, healing often takes many months. Before proceeding with implants, your dentist will assess your progress.
Yes, in certain situations. Implants can be inserted during the same treatment if there is sufficient bone already present. Otherwise, the sinus lift is done first, followed by implant placement later.

People who have lost bone in the upper jaw or have naturally low sinus positioning may need a sinus lift. It’s often recommended before placing dental implants in thatΒ area.

Was a new patient and had a very positive visit and cleaning. They explained everything they were gonna do and it eased my anxiety. The staff is friendly! My over all experience was fantastic. Decided to give this office a try as I haven’t been to a dentist in a while bc of some bad visits other places and let me say this place changed my whole perspective. Dr. Melissa was excellent and thorough with everything. Jessica cleaned my teeth and did an amazing job. Both were very patient and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I 100% recommend this dental office and they for sure have a return patient going forward!

I had such a great experience at this dental office!! Maggie is incredibly sweet and caring! She made me feel comfortable right away and took the time to walk me through everything she was doing. Dr. Hayer was just as amazing. He was very thorough when going over my X-rays and clearly explained a plan for my dental care moving forward. I also had fillings done, and the whole process was quick and completely painless. I felt zero anxiety during the procedure, and both Maggie and Dr. Hayer were both so reassuring throughout! The entire team was professional, kind, and welcoming. Overall, one of the best dental experiences I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this office if you’re looking for a place that truly prioritizes comfort and care!

So glad I found this dental office. They are kind, efficient and reasonably priced. The check in process is simple, and I was able to schedule my consultation online without having to call anyone, which is a huge plus for me. I’ve been there twice now and haven’t had to wait long to be called back. The office is pleasant and inviting with comfortable seating in the waiting area. I’ve seen Dr. Hayer and Maggie both visits and I’ve never had such gentle work done in my mouth. There is a TV to watch while having dental work done and soothing music played, too. I originally came here for a second opinion and ultimately got my crowns done here and have made this my dentist for preventive care as well.

My recent appointment was a very positive experience. While I've been to this office many times, this was my first occasion meeting Dhara who did my cleaning. She is very kind, funny, and personable. She calmly and clearly explained my treatment plan along with the associated costs. Dhara even gave me toothbrush recommendations and did a great job at easing my nerves and making me feel very comfortable. She is very professional, efficient, and answered all of my questions. Thank you!
